A lactation consultant takes to the road
The Latch Hatch
is the brain child of Latched Louisville, a lactation consultant who provides support & education for breastfeeding mothers. With a thriving business already, the owner found a vintage Airstream trailer & dreamt of modifying it to create a new concept :: a mobile lactation unit.
With babies & mothers in mind, the light, airy space is feminine & warm to complement the Latched Louisville brand as well as its target market. An Airstream trailer brought unique challenges with materials & applications, most specifically items that were travel ready, light in weight, & able to adapt to the curves of the trailer’s body.
Custom designed millwork camouflages the wheel wells as well as provides much needed storage. A comfortable nursing mother’s chair at the rear of the trailer softens the space, along with light-filtering window treatments- enough privacy for nursing, yet sheer enough to allow light to pass through. Leather loops & inexpensive dowels were used as curtain rods since traditional rods couldn’t mount to the rounded body.
